Problem

You have 300 containers across 40 machines. At 03:17 one machine dies. Twenty containers disappear. Who notices, decides where replacements should run and starts them?

Solution — Kubernetes

You declare the desired state: I want 10 instances of API. Kubernetes continually compares desired and actual state.

Desired: 10
Actual:   7
          ↓
Start 3

Core idea: Kubernetes continuously reconciles actual workloads toward declared desired state.
